AP ¦ 30.06.04 ¦ 20:33

PARIS ( AP) - ancient(former) socialist Minister of Justice Elisabeth Guigou asked on Wednesday that " the word of France is respected ", and that the writer Cesare Battisti, condemned in Italy for the murder of four persons between 1978 and 1979, is not extradited.
" It is necessary that the word of France is respected ", asserted Elisabeth Guigou on France-Inter. Underlining that she(it) had " no indulgence for the crimes which were committed " by the extreme left in Italy, she observed that the president François Mitterrand " had decided to grant(tune) the asylum " to those who had given up the violence.
" The problem with Battisti, it is because if it(he) returns to Italy, it(he) will not be rejugé ", estimated(esteemed) Elisabeth Guigou. She reminded that the former(ancient) activist had been sentenced in absentia " on the denunciations of penitents ", for his implication presumed in four murders between 1978 and 1979. AP
